New (ish) member, Steve Johnstone, on peg 7, managed 66lb 4oz for 3rd in section. On Willow Lake, 9 anglers returned 476lb. After breaking a pole section (twice!), Shaun Manning - on peg 16 - ended up on a top kit but still managed 99lb to win the section. A smidge behind, Derek Pickard clinched 2nd place from peg 9 with 95lb 8oz (beaten on-the-whistle he says!). Colin Bryant weighed in 56lb from peg 14 to take 3rd in section. A special "well done" to Alan Templeman, who netted an estimated 40lb of bream/skimmers! First nominated specimen of the year was a 1lb 8oz roach, by our illustrious chairman, Mick Hartley. Apologies to Steve Johnstone and Duane Read for messing up your names on the results page.

Summary

All 19 anglers were pegged on Keepers in 3 sections. Section 1 (pegs 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 7). Having drawn flyer peg 4, Budgie Eade produced the goods to win the section (and the match) with 37lb 12oz. A cracking performance on peg 1 from Duane Read, who clinched 2nd in section weighing in 18lb. Not far behind was Derek Pickard (did we see him walking?), who had 16lb 10oz from peg 3 to claim 3rd place. Section 2 (pegs 8,9,10,11,12 & 13) was closely contested, but Derek Massey, on peg 9, managed to return 8lb 12oz for a section win. Peg 11 saw Bunny Warren put 6lb 8oz in the net for 2nd spot, and - 2oz behind - Colin Bryant took 3rd place with 6lb 6oz off peg 8. Section 3 (pegs 14,15,16,17,18 & 19) had Colin Stark bagging up on fancied peg 17, weighing in a creditable 27lb 4oz for a section win. Next peg, 16, gave Shaun Manning 2nd place when he managed to persuade 11lb 8oz to come to his net. Across the lake on peg 14, Alan Templeman snatched 7lb from the island to claim 3rd in section. Considering many anglers were expecting bigger weights, a good day was had by all.

Summary

Well well! What a contrast at Timsbury today. A few smiley faces and a few not so smiley. Carp showed intermittently and in definite "pockets" around the lakes. Section 1 (pegs 1-7). Martin Bishop (peg 7 - main lake) set off like a train and finished off even faster as he amassed a cracking 164lb 14oz to win the section (and match). Not too far behind, though, from peg 1 on the small lake was Shaun Manning. He nipped into 2nd place with 155lb 8oz. Total weight for section 1 was 619lb 4oz. Section 2 (pegs 8-14). Master of the "floating bread" Colin Stark weighed in 147lb 4oz from peg 14 to clinch this section. Despite a broken no.7 pole section and a bruised leg, Derek "dog biscuit" Massey netted 120lb 8oz to take 2nd place. Pegs 8,9 & 10 managed 45lb 8oz between them - ouch! No prizes for guessing who caught the only eel - and a nice one at that! Total weight for section 2 was 440lb 12oz.

Summary

Phew! was that hot or what? I'm not just talking about the weather either. The lawn pegs (12-16) were on fire! Approximately 50 bream between the 5 anglers. Bunny Warren (peg 14) and Steve Battison (peg 13) took the honours - Bunny with 17 bream for 56lb and Steve with 14 bream for 45lb 12oz. Derek Pickard had 8 bream and silvers (including 2 x eels) for 32lb 10oz from peg 16. Jordan Pierce, tucked away on end peg 12, used feeder and waggler to weigh in 5 or 6 bream and silvers for 27lb 12oz. Young Sandy managed a couple of bream and silvers for 10lb 12oz. Onto the section on the path, peg 20 gave Budgie Eade the upper hand with 11 bream for 35lb 8oz. A "nip-and-tuck" scenario developed between pegs 24 and 26, but Colin Bryant nipped into 2nd place with 3 bream for 15lb, tucking Martin Bishop into 3rd on 14lb 4oz. Martin was heard to say at the weigh-in: "I'm not giving him any more corn again during a match". What are friends for?

A scrap for second place saw Derek Massey, on peg 6, just ahead with 23lb and another broken pole!! 3rd spot, with 22lb 8oz, was Budgie Eade who used every known tactic on peg 5. Must mention Bunny's stunning bag of silvers for 9lb off peg 3. Section 2 (pegs 7-12). The pellet waggler again saw Colin Stark easily win the section from peg 8 with a cracking 53lb. Next peg down, peg 7, and Derek Pickard weighed in 37lb 8oz for 2nd spot. A superb bag of silvers weighed in at 11lb. Up on peg 9, Pete Hayto managed 25lb 4oz using various methods bagged himself 3rd place. Venue was not at all bad for a "first visit" and oodles of rumours!

Summary

BBQ time again! 24 anglers enjoyed yet another BBQ "par excellence" - our thanks to Martin, Budgie and Ken for providing us with a venue, food and liquid refreshment. We also welcomed again friends from "ex-IBM" days. 3 sections of 8 today - across the lake. SECTION 1: Won by Derek Massey, who walked miles down to peg 6 and weighed in 50lb 10oz (and a match win). He also walked back with a pole in one piece! Steve Johnstone, from peg 52, came second with 33lb 14oz and 3rd spot was claimed by Paul Stock who weighed in 18lb 10oz from peg 49. SECTION 2: Young Budgie took top spot from peg 13 with 26lb 8oz. This year's "Mr consistency" - Colin Stark - weighed in 15lb 4oz to secure 2nd place from peg 17. Roger Clacey, sitting on peg 46, managed to net 11lb 5oz to take 3rd spot. SECTION 3: Pete Hayto landed 3 carp (I think) for an easy section win, returning 23lb from peg 18. On the next peg 20, yours truly (young Bunny) caught 11lb 3oz of silvers to ease into 2nd place. Over the lake on peg 35, Gerry Illingworth netted 9lb 8oz to take 3rd in section. Although pleased with my 11lb 3oz of silvers, that "silver-man" Derek Pickard went one better and bagged himself 14lb 11oz of good silvers - including his now customary eel!

Summary

Who ate all the Bream? Not a single one was seen! The total weight of 8 anglers was 20lb 2oz. After we had finished shaking our heads in disbelief, we unanimously decided "it was HARD!" Pegs 18 to 28 today - one section. Duane Read didn't need any bream as he "amassed" a winning weight of 5lb from peg 28 - yes folks, peg 28! Next peg, 27, had Derek Pickard on less than a pound with 30 mins to go. Then what? A 4lb Tench fancied his single maggot and hey ho! into second place with 4lb 14oz. Derek Massey - who? on a rare visit to the Gardens managed to net 4lb 4oz from peg 24 for 3rd spot. Apart from Steve Battison who netted 3lb 10oz off peg 21, the rest of us made up the numbers and added to the prize money!

On the same side, Derek Pickard was 14oz off the pace with 60lb 4oz to secure 2nd spot. Next peg down, Martin Bishop weighed in 53lb 4oz to claim 3rd. The last Staunton match of the season saw 7 anglers brave the walk to have an average day's fishing. At least this week a few bream showed their faces! Derek Pickard did the business on peg 22, weighing in a colossal 21lb 12oz (a mixture of bream, tench, perch and roach). Martin Bishop took 2nd place from next peg 24, netting 16lb 8oz of the same.
